My newest piece, Silent Winter, is out now on the phenomenal Berlin-based post-classical label, 7K!, as part of their ambient-inspired contemporary classical/electronic compilation, Ambient Layers Vol. II.
It’s a gorgeous record and I wrote the bones of my piece while on pandemic lockdown shortly after moving to Germany. When asked to contribute to this record I decided to rework it and add flutes/piano (Elyse Weakley), cellos (Anton Estaniel), and harp (Meredith Clark). It feels absolutely amazing to be part of such a brilliant lineup of artists, including composers like Jacaszek and the duo Skalpel – both of whom I’ve been listening to for years. In addition the record includes KMRU, Loscil, Olec Mün, Wataru Sato/Gecko, ARIGTO, JoyCut, Cubenx, TOMAT, Jonsjooel, Dienne Bogaerts, Psycho & Plastic, Sundrugs, Inlet Industry, and Earth Begins x Stead x Gommarosa.
I don’t release much slower, ambient music like this, and it was an exciting departure from the frenetic, ultra-rhythmic stuff I usually write. It still includes cellos flutes and harp in addition to a battery of synths and sculpted sounds, so it’s not such a wild departure from my overall sound 🙂
