I need to thank everyone who helped me make this happen over the years, the core musicians in The Hurd Ensemble (Solenn Seguillon, Anton Estaniel, Elyse Weakley, Ari Gorman, Jacob Hansen-Joseph) who worked with me non-stop to realize and fine-tune an incredibly complicated style of music; the parade of amazing musicians who randomly sat in on sessions and gigs time and time again; friends and family who were and are endlessly supportive; and the folks in the San Francisco New Music scene whose open-mindedness made me feel welcome as I tried out all kinds of sonic craziness on them.
Specifically I need to thank certain people that made this album shine extra bright, such as the brilliant violinist/ composer Carla Kihlstedt who recorded the piece I wrote for her, Navigation Without Numbers, to jaw-dropping effect; composer/engineer Mark Orton who mixed the record and helped mentor me through the process of polishing an album to perfection; and lastly my lovely and incredible fiancee Anna Singer, who not only stood by my side while I worked on this endlessly over the years, but has inspired me to keep going and push my work farther than I thought possible. Without her I honestly don’t think I could have done this. What’s more is she designed not only the album art but also both of my websites, including this one! If you are a fan of CDs, check out the job she did on this album – good lord, I’m a lucky man.
