I’m happy to announce that The Hurd Ensemble is the recipient of a 2017 Shenson Award, a grant from the San Francisco Community Music Center that is given to musicians and ensembles to fund a free performance of their work. The end result is a concert on Jan 27, 2017 where we’ll be premiering two pieces of mine (alongside music from our album Navigation Without Numbers): Saint Claire – a wildly percussive world-premiere based on my being rescued at sea by a wandering, old sailor and the life-affirming effects of getting close to death, and the SF-premiere of Grace, a shimmering, time-stretching piece co-composed with Joel St. Julien based on trying to achieve a life of simplicity and peace.
