I wrote a song for my wife that I played to her in a small town in southern Portugal on the day I proposed to her. It took years of sneaky recording sessions and late-night writing to make it happen; calling in favors from friends in Chicago, Munich, and San Francisco to record the parts, all based on a melody her father used to whistle to her as a child. One of the best moments of my life.
